Providing service in support of others in the holy places of Christianity. This is the extraordinary experience that Confreres and Consorelles of the Misericordie of Italy can have at the first headquarters of the Misericordia in the Holy Land, in Bethlehem. It was inaugurated at the end of 2013 and is a place where Confreres from all over Italy can serve. The opportunity to perform acts of mercy where Jesus lived and preached is undoubtedly a touching, life-changing and meaningful experience.
On 21 November 2013, the first Confraternity was inaugurated in Bethlehem, and since 2014 its health and social assistance activities have been directed towards the Palestinian population.
The activities of the Misericordia of Bethlehem
2014 marks the beginning of the operational activities. These are carried out in Bethlehem through health and social assistance to the Palestinian population, also through the use of an equipped minibus.
At the same time, activities are organised in Italy at different levels: first of all, young volunteers from Misericordie are deployed for periods of one or two weeks, with the opportunity to become familiar with the Arabic language and culture.
Secondly, young Palestinians involved with the Misericordia of Bethlehem can be hosted by Misericordie in Italy, with the aim of promoting mutual knowledge, exchanging cultures of peace, and allowing them to experience how solidarity and fraternity are practiced in the Misericordie.
Finally, the Confederation and the regional Conferences regularly organize pilgrimages to the Holy Land to raise awareness about these places and the lives of Christians of Palestine among members of the Movement.
Additionally, through the coordination of the National Confederation and the regional Conferences, the Misericordie can buy kits of artisanal products to support the work of Christian artisans in the Holy Land.
